The history of the museum

  • 1986 Foundation and official opening
  • 1993 Laying of the foundation stone for the extension (additional exhibition space, storage facilities)
  • 1997 Re-opening
  • 1998 Foundation of the friends association
  • 2006 Gallery is integrated into the Saxony-Anhalt regional art museum, run by the Moritzburg Castle foundation in Halle
  • 2006 Harzsparkasse bank becomes the main sponsor of the Lyonel Feininger Gallery
  • 2007 Start of renovation work at Schlossberg 11 and construction of a new wing
  • 2008 Opening of the Klopstock summer house
  • 2013 Opening of the renovated Schlossberg 11 venue and the new side wing with additional exhibition space and a studio for art education
  • 2014 Lyonel Feininger Gallery becomes part of the Foundation for the Cathedrals and Castles of Saxony-Anhalt, which becomes Kulturstiftung Sachsen-Anhalt in 2017. The gallery concept is extended to create a museum of graphic art.
  • 2017 Cooperation with the World Heritage town of Quedlinburg to develop the site of the municipal copperplate collections
